Astrology is a two thousand year old tradition that reads the positions of the planets in the sky at the moment of your birth as a symbolic language tied to human experience.
From the sky at the moment of birth, a birth chart is drawn. This chart shows which sign and which house the Sun, the Moon and the other planets were standing in when you were born. The astrologer reads these positions as a symbolic language, offering a framework for personality tendencies, relationship patterns and life themes.
At House of Zij we use astrology as a tool of meaning, not a prophecy. We do not say that the stars decide your fate. The stars incline, they do not compel. A transit does not tell you what will happen to you, it tells you how you can work with the energy that is arriving.
Our method has two layers: classical technique (the traditional methods that reach from the Hellenistic period through medieval Islamic astrology, from William Lilly to Demetra George) together with a modern psychological approach(the depth psychology that comes from Carl Jung, Dane Rudhyar and Liz Greene). The two are not rivals, they are two layers that complete each other.
The astrologer reads your birth chart as a translator. The sky is already speaking, and we put it into words with you.
FAQ
I do not know my birth time. Can a chart still be drawn?
It cannot, but your Sun and the rest of your planetary signs can still be read. The Rising sign, the Moon sign and the Midheaven all depend on the time of birth and cannot be set without it. If you do not know your birth time, you can often find it through civil records or hospital archives. Beyond that, the technique of Rectification can pinpoint the minute of birth.
Is astrology scientific?
Astrology is not a hard science, it is a symbolic language. Yet it lives on as a continuous two thousand year old tradition, a deep psychological discipline, and a bridge between the sky and human experience. We stand on a line that reaches from Ptolemy to Jung.
Do the stars decide the future?
No. The stars incline, they do not compel. Astra inclinant, sed non obligant. A transit does not tell you what will happen to you, it points to how you can work with the energy that is arriving. The choice is always yours.
Which school of astrology do you use?
Modern psychological astrology is the backbone, and classical techniques (Hellenistic and medieval Arabic) add depth. We use the Placidus house system. Alongside contemporary voices such as Demetra George, Robert Hand and Liz Greene, we also honor the tradition of Vettius Valens, Abu Ma'shar and William Lilly.
What should I do when I hear I am getting a difficult transit?
Do not be afraid, understand it. There is no such thing as a "bad transit", only demanding ones. The heavy passages of planets like Saturn or Pluto are tiring, but they carry a lesson. Our aim here is to show you that lesson and to work through it with you.
