Numerology is a discipline that reads the numerical values of the letters in a name and a birth date as a symbolic language about personal character and life cycles.
Its roots reach back to Pythagoras. For Pythagoras, a number was not only a quantity, it was a quality. 1 is beginning, 2 is duality, 3 is creation, 7 is the mystical search. This idea lived on in different forms in the ancient Egyptian, Babylonian and Indian traditions, and modern numerology draws from that same pool.
There are two main systems: Pythagorean (modern Western, the logic of A=1, B=2 ... Z=26) and Chaldean (ancient Babylonian, with more symbolic correspondences). At House of Zij we use both, choosing depending on the context.
Numerology is not prophecy. The numbers do not tell you what to do, they tell you which vibration you work with. Someone with a Life Path of 7 enters their flow not by following fate, but by making choices true to their nature.
It bears its deepest fruit when read alongside astrology. The correspondences between numbers and planets (1 is the Sun, 2 the Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Uranus, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Neptune, 8 Saturn, 9 Mars) bind the two languages into a single table.
FAQ
Is numerology a science?
No. Numerology is not a science, it is a symbolic language of numbers. It is a discipline carried forward since Pythagoras, built on the idea that numbers hold a quality and not only a quantity.
Do you use the Pythagorean or the Chaldean system?
Both, depending on context. Pythagorean (modern Western) is the main system, and Chaldean (ancient Babylonian) is for deeper symbolic readings. Taking a Turkish name and reading it through Chaldean, or taking a Latin spelling and reading it through Pythagorean, opens different layers.
How is the Life Path number calculated?
Every digit of the birth date is added together, one by one, until it reduces to a single digit. For example: 17.05.1990 becomes 1+7+0+5+1+9+9+0 = 32, then 3+2 = 5. The Life Path is 5. Master numbers (11, 22, 33) are not reduced.
For name numerology, do you use a nickname or the legal name?
The full name given at birth is the main reading. A nickname, a chosen name, a married surname add extra layers. Looking at all three together gives the richest result.
Is there a connection to astrology?
Yes. In Pythagorean thought, numbers and planets are linked (1 is the Sun, 2 the Moon, 3 Jupiter, and so on). At House of Zij we also offer numerology and astrology synthesis readings.
